We study the ways in which living together affects what microbes do and how they evolve.

We ask questions such as:

  • How do interactions between organisms shape ecological and evolutionary outcomes?

  • What determines when community dynamics are predictable across ecological and evolutionary timescales?

  • How can we steer evolution by manipulating interactions and environments?

Our work combines experiments, theory, and quantitative analysis to study microbial communities across ecological and evolutionary timescales. By using simplified model systems, we aim to uncover general principles governing interactions, adaptation, and community dynamics.
